As-salaam Alaikum everyone,
I want to introduce you all to our Appendix References project, which is an initiative that focuses on providing information on topics that we find relevant to our mission, organization, and members. The concept of a virtual Appendix Reference collection comes from my oldest brother, Amjad "Ace" Khan, who believed in sharing information that would benefit anyone and everyone that came across it. He loved the idea of an Appendix so much that he created his own company entitled, The Appendix. His company aimed to provide a collection of references (promotional videos, resources, music, etc.) to aid aspiring artists and entrepreneurs. In addition to his company, he used his social media platforms to provide Appendix References that could help everyone with aspects of everyday life.
What is an appendix? An "appendix" appears towards the end of a book and consists of "supplementary information that the author or publisher thinks may be of interest to the reader, but is either too tangential or too detailed to be worked into the actual text." Applying this concept to the virtual world, I aim to have our website and social media platforms act as an Appendix---with specific posts, videos, or blogs being denoted as appendix references. These references, such as our blog on "A Brief Look At Islam In Guyana," will allow us to provide essential information that everyone can access at any time and from convenient locations. Accessibility is extremely important to us and with our Appendix References, we can further our goals of providing educational resources to those who want or need them. These references will be especially useful when we cannot hold in-person programs or events!
In honor of Black History Month, we will be posting Appendix References highlighting important figures and information relating to Black History. In subsequent months, we will post references relating to topics that we feel are crucial to know about.
Ultimately, my brother inspired me with this concept, and it is with my own version of Appendix References that I intend to honor his memory. InShaAllah it is our goal to provide helpful information to as many people as we possibly can.

"Our voice is our own, and no one can speak for us! ...our focus should be on building a foundation that's beneficial for everyone and to help one another grow. We need a system that can't fail us. And if it doesn't exist yet, we must create it. We need to do a better job investing in our communities and supporting one another. It's time for us to use our time effectively, in organizing and building that foundation."
